While it’s always a great time to explore all that Downtown San Marcos has to offer, there is something magical about Downtown during the holiday season. From shopping at local boutiques and art markets to a cozy cup of coffee and a stroll to see the festive décor and murals – there’s plenty of space for a festive escape to Downtown San Marcos.

Morning

Get here early and start your SMTXperience off with hot coffee, your favorite breakfast food and time to plan your day.
May we suggest: Jo’s Café, Stellar Coffee, The Coffee Bar, Babe's Doughnuts or Café on the Square

Once you’re caffeinated and ready to go, make your way to the Courthouse Lawn for Art Squared (November 12 & 26 or December 10). Peruse the arts and crafts vendors on the lawn and the Farmer’s Market vendors on the street to immerse yourself in the colors and flavors of San Marcos.

Afternoon

Once you’ve had your fill of the excitement around the Courthouse, it’s time to take your shopping adventure to the rest of the Downtown area for vintage and boutique finds. Once you’ve really shopped San Marcos right, it’s time to fuel up and relax for a while.
May we suggest: Railyard Bar and Grill, Crafthouse Kitchen and Tap, Gil’s Broiler or Gumby’s

Whether you enjoyed a fresh salad or a cheesy burger (our personal choice), after lunch should be reserved for a little downtime. The LBJ Museum of San Marcos is a great stop for history lovers. The museum focuses on LBJ’s time in San Marcos when he was a student here and holds some real treasures. And just a few doors down from the museum is the San Marcos Art Center. Home to some of San Marcos’ most beloved artists, visiting the San Marcos Art Center is always a new experience. From paintings and glassworks to jewelry and woodworking, you’ll probably leave with your very own piece of the San Marcos art scene.

Evening

Of course, a trip to San Marcos wouldn’t be complete without a trip to at least one local brewery. And lucky for you, both of them serve amazing food and have outdoor areas that are perfect for lounging and imbibing! Find your new favorite brew and even buy some beer to go so you can recreate your visit with hill country brews when you’ve made it back home.
May we suggest: AquaBrew or Sean Patrick’s

Downtown San Marcos is a lively place to be when the sun goes down. Whether you’re visiting with friends, family, or with your special person, you’re in for a good time. Walk around the Square and see what popular nightlife spot calls your name, or pick a restaurant with wonderful cocktails and brews. Oh, and make sure you take a photo at the latest installation at the Downtown Mobility Hub or under the twinkling lights in Kissing Alley. Did you even take a trip if there aren’t cute photos to prove it? We don’t think so…

May we suggest: North Street, Taproom Pub and Grub, Industry

Once you’re ready to call it a night, your room at the Crystal River Inn is just a quick walk away. Relax and get a great night’s sleep at your quaint home away from home in the heart of San Marcos.

Morning

Feel free to sleep in and enjoy a relaxing morning. You are in San Marcos after all, which means lots of chill, laid-back vibes. Enjoy a leisurely brunch on a patio for prime people-watching and perhaps a mimosa or two.
May we suggest: Blue Dahlia Bistro, Root Cellar Café or Palmer’s Restaurant

Once you’re brunched out it’s time to stretch out your legs and go on an artistic San Marcos adventure. You never know what you’ll find exploring San Marcos and new art seems to pop up in the most unexpected places. We suggest looking in alleyways and behind buildings to find your new favorite piece. And speaking of favorites, don’t forget to share a photo of your favorites on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with @downtownSMTX! We’d love to see your shots.
