Texas State University

Right in the heart of San Marcos is Texas State University (TXST). With more than 38,000 students enrolled, TXST is the fourth largest university in Texas. TXST participates in NCAA Division I and is a part of the Sun Belt Conference.

Home of the Bobcats
Bobcat Stadium is home to the Texas State football program and the stadium can hold more than 30,000 fans. Strahan Arena at the University Events Center is home to the women’s volleyball team, as well as the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Strahan has seating for 10,000 wild and crazy Bobcats and has recently undergone quite the facelift. Some of the other TXST Facilities are Bobcat Ballpark (2,000 seats), Bobcat Softball Stadium (1,000 seats), Bobcat Soccer Complex (1,000 seats), Bobcat Track and Field Stadium (1,000 seats) and Tennis Center.

Going to a game? What to know before you go...
Boko the Bobcat is Texas States’ fearsome (it’s actually pretty cute) mascot. The bobcat is known for stubborn fierceness and great courage. The school colors are maroon and gold, which was inspired by the school flower, the native wildflower gaillardia. Don’t have any maroon and gold? No worries! There are several stores around town that sell TXST merch so you can get all decked out before the big game.

Checking out the campus
Check out the Texas State stomping grounds before the big game! Walk over to beautiful Sewell Park (behind Strahan) for some time by the crystal-clear San Marcos River. Trek up to Old Main, the first building on campus and highest point. The walk up there is killer, but worth it! See the statues in The Quad and make a point to visit The Wittliff Collections on the seventh floor of Alkek Library for art and history exhibits, and a special Lonesome Dove collection.

Sports Fields

From professional athletes to youth competitions and everything in between, San Marcos has a spot for your next sports tournament, competition or event!
