When summer sizzles, San Marcos offers more than just a place to cool off; it’s a place to be inspired. Across the city, art, culture, and history are woven into the fabric of daily life. And when the temperatures climb, the city’s air-conditioned galleries provide the perfect excuse to step inside, slow down, and explore.

Admission is free, and the galleries are open Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm (open weekends during the summer sessions). Exhibits rotate regularly, so there’s always something fresh to discover.
Walkers’ Gallery at the San Marcos Activity Center
Inside the San Marcos Activity Center, the Walkers’ Gallery has been spotlighting local and regional artists for more than 25 years. This summer, you can catch Lines, Loops, & Layers from May 9 to June 27, exploring depth and texture. I Got The Blues will be showing from July 17 to August 22, celebrating blue in all its forms, whether it's a color, a feeling, an emotion, or more. Come out and meet the artists at the opening reception for I Got The Blues on July 17 from 5:30-7pm. To finish out the summer shows, Naturescapes will take over the Walkers' Gallery from August 22 to October 24.

Texas State University Galleries
For cutting-edge contemporary art, head to the Texas State Galleries, where students, faculty, and guest artists present thought-provoking shows in professional exhibition spaces. You’ll find a mix of media and themes, always indoors and always free to explore.

Wimberley Glassworks
A short scenic drive away, Wimberley Glassworks is a feast for the senses. Known for their hand-blown art glass and lighting, the studio offers live glassblowing demonstrations where you can watch molten glass take shape in real time. After the show, step into the cool indoor gallery to see finished works ranging from delicate vases to bold architectural lighting installations.
Silo Glass
Just outside San Marcos, Silo Glass is part gallery, part working studio - specializing in kiln-formed glass rather than hand-blown pieces. Their intricate platters, wall art, and sculptures are created through a process of layering and fusing glass in high-temperature kilns. Visitors can browse the light-filled showroom, take in the vibrant colors and textures, and shop for one-of-a-kind pieces, all in air-conditioned comfort.
